Costa Rica is one of the very few countries in the world without military expense. The Army was abolished in 1949 and ever since all the funds usually spent in weapons, has been destined completely to education. The GWS office staff in this country, willing to return to society some of the opportunities, advantages and privileges granted to working in a company such as Global Water Solutions has joined forces with the Foundation “Accion Joven” (Young Action), a non- profit organization created to motivate and help schools in neighborhoods of very low income. They encourage students to continue their studies and not drop out of school and help them graduate by providing private classes to those interested in having a better future. We volunteered as tutors and are participating at the school Julio Fonseca located in the marginal neighborhood of La Peregrina, in San Jose. Our colleagues are now assisting the school with classes of English, Physics, Chemistry and Math. The idea is to lend some of our time, without interfering with our working hours or company resources, in helping these adolescents understand better the different subjects seen in each grade and prepare them for their graduation tests.  The experience is encouraging, motivational and very demanding as it has obligated us all to go back and review everything we have learned at school many years ago. We at GWS feel very proud of their efforts and can hardly wait to see the students graduate from school and aspire for a better future for themselves and their families.
