GWS Costa Rica Supporting Children to Experience Space
Located about 200km west from San Jose city, we can find AD Astra Rocket Company. Owned by NASA astronaut Franklin Chang Diaz, AD Astra Rocket Company (AARC) is a leading spaceflight technology company dedicated to the development of advanced plasma rocket propulsion. The company is developing the Variable Specific Impulse Magnetoplasma Rocket (VASIMR®) technology.
The VASIMR® technology began in The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge Massachusetts and continued at the MIT Plasma Fusion Center before the project moved to the Johnson Space Center in 1994. AD Astra Rocket was incorporated on January 14th, 2005 when the VASIMR® concept was privatized from NASA.
As part of our goal to impact youth population in Costa Rica, GWS donated a trip to 17 children from a marginal area in the province of Guanacaste to experience a very small part of what the Space is and how it could be explored in more efficient ways. During the tour the kids were fascinated about the idea of Space and all it represents.
